One of the many highlights of the island experiences is definitely doing a guided walk. The beauty of the Island beckons to be explored and guests have the freedom to comb the beaches and roam the forests at leisure.

Taking a leisurely stroll around the Island offers the perfect opportunity to simply take it all in as well as spend some quality time with friends and family. Young ones can enjoy the wide open stretches of beach to run and play while also keeping an eye on the endemic birds found on the island or bright red crabs scuttling across the soft sand. Those looking to relax can soak up some gorgeous sunshine while admiring the scenery and taking a dip in the warm tropical waters.

Now that the exploring spirit has taken hold, why not venture out to the surrounding islands? Guests can choose to explore the sandy shores of St. François and Bijoutier along with Alphonse. A guided island hop excursion to St. François will allow you to explore the beautiful sandy flats as well as view Mangrove Crabs, various tropical birds and pelagic fish species that call the flats home as they go about their day. The island excursions also allow you to leave your footprints in the white sand and swim the crystal clear waters where few others have ventured before. A visit to Bijoutier Island is also a special experience as it not only holds cerulean waters and breath-taking beaches, but it is also a nesting hotspot for the area’s resident turtles. If you’re lucky, you might just spot a nesting Green or Hawksbill Turtle or catch a glimpse of a Wedge-tailed Shearwater through the mangroves.

Another favourite amongst guests is the ICS Guided Walks. Alphonse Island works in close collaboration with the Island Conservation Society and the knowledgeable guides host a variety of educational activities including guided walks, beach clean-ups and turtle monitoring. Join your guide as they show you around the island and share interesting facts about the indigenous wildlife found here.

Discovering the Island on foot - whether guided or at your own leisure - is a lovely experience to be enjoyed by all. There are no boundaries, dangerous animals or traffic which allows you to truly immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of this natural landscape of the Seychelles. There are also a number of running and hiking trails for those who wish to explore at a slightly quicker pace. Be sure to ask the front desk for a map of the different paths. While exploring, keep an eye out as the the Island is also home to a small group of free-roaming ancient Aldabra Tortoises, so you might just make a new friend along the way!
